lyrics
Each morning, I wake up to the same shrill warning that I'm standing still, as the whole world keeps turning in front of me.
While everyone around me is accelerating at a steady pace, am I the one that’s insane, or is life just one cruel race?
I'm forever a student taking mental notes of all the things you've put before me, and all the things I've left behind. How can I lead by example, when my examples have led me wrong? Cause I think like a Midwestern kid, and act like a Southern man. In a land where promises are artifacts, but confidence is in high demand, you can’t sleep off your faults because of the wine you drank. Or deny your mistakes when they’ve got their hands in your bank. But go ahead, work all day, and die with pride. I’ll stand here, and watch your legacy wash away in the tide.
Reflective thoughts have become my greatest asset, and not to mention my own worst enemy. I've been hung up on insecurities so damn long, slowly justifying them into excuses. Not wanting to reveal certain thoughts, I'm losing ground, becoming reclusive. No more dreams grapple my sleep, they've given up and reverted to sheep. No time to think about her while my convictions remain so unsure. As relief escapes through the cracks in my door, the rich environment conflicts. With a mentality so poor. Sweeping change releases blows to the head, I'm forced to throw up all that I've been fed.
Clouds of thought rain down into text. Further muddying what I always thought was best. But alas, I put my mind to rest, and find peace in these melodies and the words we speak.
