1.
There is a precipice, There is a point of no return. When you lay it on the altar, When you burn it to a crisp. I’ll burn it to a crisp, I’ll burn it to a crisp. The freezing moon will light your path or tear apart your flesh. Mayhem ensues in my mind, I’m grasping at anything. Anything, anything. Anything, anything. Something. I could have had every conversation I needed but I threw it away. I’ll never know what I wanted to say, or what I wanted to hear. Now you’re a million fucking miles away, and my misery’s down the hall. A single message with no one left to call. There is a precipice, (Falling, flailing) There is a point of no return, (Diving, flying) When you lay it on the altar. (Despondent, despondent)
2.
Despondent, Despondent. Trapped inside the hole in my head. I never thought that I would feel like this. Days move by, by and by. As long as we stay alive we will... Someday, be glad that we survived. Someday, someday. Never while lost in this cycle. Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice! Self-loathing, Decomposing, Withholding, Houses smoking. Rejoice. Grant me the serenity Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Grant me the serenity Grant me the serenity Grant me the serenity And the courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference.
3.
Your eyes close, and your head tilts Signifies the moment when your flower wilts The bee is losing her source of pollen As the summoning petals have all but fallen And now a day has come When all your dreams are gone Still you have stood strong Stamen, stem, and roots have not lost their ground Their desire to die, stifled by the will to live you found Decades passed and the dirt surrounding has transformed New compounds infiltrate the loam and soil Adapt or perish The anatomy remains the same, but love becomes vestigial So what's the next move Stay standing in comfort or uproot and catch wind At the mercy of intersecting currents Until the entropy settles the unsettled mind And you regain hold In an environment conducive to thriving In a world you have thought was not worth surviving You can find something to replace What you once found important in this place Future shorter than the past Time's not lost, just free at last So give this light a chance Tropism towards hope, internal dance
4.
Lights begin to flicker Signal: engine failure Recall training, instincts engaging Seconds to live, where your life turn Mind swings to her, your favorite picture Count the times she made you smile Flash inspiration Internal persuasion Anything to survive, for them to see you alive Mind swings to her, your favorite baby picture Count the times you made her smile Refocus, and take control You got your reasons to accomplish the task ahead You did your homework, so that you would always come home Like you promised at every departure A promise made with trusting eyes Now remember your ABCs of emergency landing A - Airspeed Maintain to release control pressure and maximize range; bide time B - Best place to land Scan for fields in the congested forrest, small clearing spotted in the distance C - Checklist Fuel selector, primer and pump. Master switch, flaps, seat belt and door Descending, quickly revealing a farm and it's family, just another reminder Altitude dropping, hands steady but sweating Opening grows larger, but not as large as you hoped Pass the last tree, lean forward then level out Coming in too fast, hit landing gear switch Hold on, irrigation trench Nose hits, mind to them Lights out
