So here it comes again
Our old December friend
It waits for us as we approach the revolution's end
We greet it with understanding
Conceding our joy for living
Shadow comes to life
And this year it's added mass
Now a heavyweight with age we've moved up a class
Increasingly overwhelming
Can't conquer that sense of drowning
But we will try our best
To fake a smile
Our mouths they lie but our hearts are under duress
Our presence here we start to second guess
In company but still alone
A room filled with conversation and laughter
Try to hone our focus toward the now not the after
Anticipated occasion, but our minds grow frustrated
Have love for everyone here but can't demonstrate it
But all we can do is
Just keep moving
So here it comes again
This time a new year's friend
With expectations that we can somehow make this cycle end
We'll search for a new solution
Establish our resolutions
Seemingly so arbitrary despite consistency
Just an excuse to end abuse on our own self esteem
We'll admit that we're not helpless
Small steps toward a new found progress
So now we'll do our best
Genuine smile, we speak in truth about our hearts and stress
Our presence here we never second guess
In company and not alone
Fill the room with conversation and laughter
We've turned our focus to the now not what's after
Anticipated occasion, this time our minds elated
Have love for everyone here; can't wait to demonstrate it
And I'm thankful that it's we and not just me
